KTorrent 4.1 is out
After many months of work, new major releases for ktorrent and libktorrent are available. The biggest new features are:
- Support for Superseeding
- KIO magnet, see Christian Weilbach's blog for an introduction
- The user interface has been redesigned, making better use of KDE's KParts technologies
- Video streaming, enabling you to start watching a movie while it is downloading
Release candidate for 4.1 is now available
In preparation for the final 4.1 release, ktorrent 4.1rc1 and libktorrent 1.1rc1 are now available. It has a lot of bugfixes and improvements over the beta release. For a full list of all the fixes take a look in the ChangeLog files.
KTorrent 4.0.5 and 4.1beta1 out
Two new releases on one day, first a new bugfix release in the 4.0 branch. It fixes several crashes, and other small issues in the µTP code. This will probably be the final release in the 4.0 series.
Next to this release the first beta of 4.1 has also been released. This is a testing release so that the new features in 4.1 can have their first test. The most notable changes in this release are:
- Video streaming support
- Superseeding support
- Data file moves are now tracked in the GUI
KTorrent 4.0.4 released
A new bugfix release is out for the 4.0 series. It fixes several minor things, and improves the performance when there are many torrents. A new version of libktorrent is also out. Fixing a deadlock and a crash in the µTP protocol code.
For more details about the fixes, take a look at the ChangeLog files in the tar balls.
KTorrent 4.0.3 released
A new bugfix release for the 4.0 series is here. Several crashes have been fixed, and some minor bugs were fixed. KDE progress dialogs are now shown when moving files, and 2 digits of precision are now used when displaying sizes and speed.
Next to the ktorrent release, there is also a new release for libktorrent. Fixing several bugs and rare crashes. When upgrading ktorrent it is advisable to also upgrade libktorrent.
New bugfix release available
KTorrent 4.0.2 and libktorrent 1.0.2 have been released. This fixes several smaller things and a couple of crashes. The performance and stability of the µTP implementation has also been improved.
For more details, take a look at the ChangeLogs included in the tar archives.
KTorrent 4.0.1 and libktorrent 1.0.1 have been released
The first bugfix release for the 4.0 series has arrived. Several crashes have been fixed, as well as a problem which caused a lot of disk activity when downloading at high speed on certain filesystems.
If you upgrade ktorrent, it is recommended to also upgrade libktorrent, seeing that several of the bugfixes are in libktorrent.
Update: The packages have been updated, there were some minor issues with them
KTorrent 4.0 is out
KTorrent 4.0 is finally released. This release add some rather interesting features like magnet support and the µTP protocol (bittorrent over UDP).
Next to these big ones many smaller ones were also added:
- Authentication can now be disabled in the webinterface (use with care obviously)
- A new plugin to generate magnet URI's from torrents was added
- Events like hibernating and the network going down for some time, are now handled in a better way.
4.0rc1 available
The release of 4.0 is approaching, as a final preparation for this release, 4.0rc1 is now available. It is mostly a bugfix release, however there is one big change. KTorrent has now split into the application ktorrent and the library libktorrent.
Libktorrent contains all the torrent downloading code, and ktorrent contains all application code and plugins. The goal is to make libktorrent an independent library (though still closely related to ktorrent), which can be used by other applications.
KTorrent 4.0beta2 released
The second beta release for 4.0 is out, this is the first version of ktorrent to feature support for the µTorrent transport protocol. It is still in an experimental stadium but it should be fairly stable.
Next to this big change, a whole bunch of bugs were fixed and several improvements where made:
- Authentication can now be disabled in the webinterface (use with care obviously)
- A new plugin to generate magnet URI's from torrents was added
- Events like hibernating and the network going down for some time, are now handled in a better way.
